| | Tough - as always | |
| | was tough, cannot believe i ran 26.48 coming off top of royd moor felt like you were still going up hill in that wind,so all in all well happy with the way i ran, more than made up for last sundays shocking run in the crosscountry.- baldeagle, 2009-11-25 YES! I only managed to drop ONE place this time. From 34th to 35th. Don't think I'll get another bottle of wine this year. Well done to everyone concerned, Anne and Keith and Martyn and the road crossing person at Millhouse. Ran a far more even race than the last and finished in more or less the same time. Good considering it was blustery in places. Sorry that Julie couldn't make it. I still think that she should get the 25 pts due to her being an International runner.- SoreenEater, 2009-11-24 | |

| | The chips are served! Same results link as below. It certainly makes a difference to people at the back. Wonder if it is worth waiting a minute or so before setting off, let everyone bump and barge and then have a clearer run?- SoreenEater, 2009-11-16 Chip times will be out some time tomorrow. What is the ruling on chip times? If someone is slower than their PB on gun time but faster on chip time........?- SoreenEater, 2009-11-15 Video www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bk3ZuROdUE - SoreenEater, 2009-11-15 Results www.barnsleyac.co.uk/results2009.pdf - SoreenEater, 2009-11-15 Excellent weather conditions. Lee Storey was 1st PFR runner home. Said he would probably do sub 40. Just managed 36:15! Photo and results are below. www.flamingphotography.co.uk/portfolio77698.html - SoreenEater, 2009-11-15 Best of luck to everyone. Hope the wind dies down. | | No results yet. Meltham and Denby Dale sites are down. Geocites gone off the air?- SoreenEater, 2009-11-10 Apologies re spelling mistakes! Too much mud on my fingers! Disappoint, one, etc etc- SoreenEater, 2009-11-09 who's 365 days a year always flued injured shaun d member of pfr ????,a massive well done to all who braved the sh*te weather in the most competitive races in south yorkshire young and old well done again.- baldeagle, 2009-11-08 Mud, mud glorious mud. Nothing quite like it really. On or two PFR's turned up for this two lapper. If you like mud and water and more mud and water, then this one never diasappoints. I'd had my hair done especially for that Flaming Photographer (some great shots on his web site), and tried to make sure that I didn't look too stressed and out of breath. Shame it didn't work. Steady first lap and then put the gas on to try and catch Newcasl. Didn't manage it though. Damien was well up the front, while Alan Knox, Pete Stanley and myself were somewhere further back. Thought there might have been more there. Saw Shaun D who managed a 2nd place and probably Yorkshire Vet Champion even though he was injured.- SoreenEater, 2009-11-08 | |
| Tue 3rd Nov 2009 | Winter Handicap 3 |
| | TOUGH! | |
| | Disappeared! Sorry.- SoreenEater, 2009-11-03 Well, I'm slipping down the leaderboard quite nicely. From 2nd to 18th to 34th. Hmmm. That's a drop of 16 places each time. 4th race should see me in 50th spot! LOL! Thanks to all those that gave up their time to make sure that the race ran smoothly. Being passed by a group on the way down the steep hill was a sure sign that I'd nothing in the tank. Julie just whizzed by on the way up to Royd Moor and disappear into the moonlight.- SoreenEater, 2009-11-03 | |

| | Not usually here for this bit of tarmac. Now I know why. Last time I attempted this one it was VERY hot. I don't do hot. I hate running in the heat. I drank as much as I could last night and this morning but I still don't think it was enough. Stuart W was there and two young ladies from the club. Apologies for not knowing their names. I should go to the club more often and then I'd know them. It was hot all the way round with hardly a breath of wind. Won't do it again in a hurry. No chance of keeping Robin at bay this time - what a run. It certainly paid to start steady and save the sprint for later, confirmed by the split times - passing about 27 people on each of the timed legs finishing in 4:28:45. Biggest challenge of the day was managing to down 8 Strawberry and Banana gels without puking - but it kept the man-cramp at bay.- KingSnail, 2009-04-27 Big vote of thanks to Scab for persuading me to do this one. The last couple of times in this race, I've been suffering at Hill Inn and ready to pack in. No training, meant a steady approach at the start and any sign of feeling good at any point, was controlled with a "save it for later!". Everyone had a game plan and stuck to it, which was sensible. Nicky went off, and by Pen Y Gent, Shaun, Mark and myself had got ourselves into survival mode. Starting at the back was a good idea. Whernside was tough but manageable. Hill Inn? Felt fine....... Okay, here we go. Top of Inglebugger and time to pass some of the people cramping up big time. Tiring somewhat but no cramp. Tried to keep up with Ian from Dark Peak.
At PYG I was in 410th Ribblehead 314th Whernside 267th Hill Inn 250th Ingleboro 207th Finish 196th Hills are my strong point - 47 people passed up Whern and 43 up Ingleboro.
Actually managed a PB! Robin Clough from Barnsley chased me down and with another field or two ...... Try next year Robin, but I WON'T be doing it! Everybody had a great day and achieved what they wanted to. Well done Nicky for being 5th lady and a super prize. | | That was certainly different. Well done to Shaun D for winning it. Must be great to see the front runners. Ran as fast as I could but decidely slower than last week. Needed a few hills. Good traffic free course and the field were certainly spread out. Thought it might be difficult to pass people; no worries there, they were mainly passing me! Well done to everyone from Penistone. Can't wait to see the results, especially to find out if we've moved up a spot in the Seniors and Vets. | | Fantastic evening for running, a little cool to stand about for an hour though. Superb turn out, gets a little scary though when the new reg line is as big as the established runner line. What would happen if everyone tirned up at once. A big thanks to everyone that helps out, it wouldn't happen without you all. Apologise to the Charlesworths, shouldn't have registered juniors at the van, fingers slapped and will not happen again. (Blame Brent). Thanks to Brent for the help with registering and biggest thanks to Mark Pearce for the web site and results service, which got the results out, nearly right, by 20:38. Considerint the number of runners and new registered, a stalwart job. Thank you all.- Mouth Almighty, 2009-03-30

| | Perhaps you should give Max Clifford a ring, he might be your Press agent for a fee.- Grinah, 2009-04-01 Case closed I would suggest. The orange cap is sufficient evidence as to his guilt as there are 350 witnesses to the fact that he ran with his arse hanging out of his trollies. I favour disqualification simply to elevate me into the position of 1st club member back. P.S. Me, thee and Cheating Ripon seem to be excluded from the Edale piccies on the club's front webpage. There are loads of Charley and he's surely not as photogenic!!!- Scab, 2009-03-31 ... I'll get the rope... do we turn up at the club with pitch forks and torches on Tuesday night then? I think we should have a hat and arse identity parade? However, the mystery is solved by clicking the link... www.dpfr.org.uk/album/2009/Skyline/slides/DMC-TZ5%20229.php - KingSnail, 2009-03-30 From the Fra Forum on the heinous crime of cutting the Ringing Roger zig-zags: " was the offender wearing an orange cap and had his ar*se hanging out of his tights? I saw him cutting the zig-zags....I think someone shouted as he undertook them but that cut no ice with him.....He seemed to know all the DPFR's....tosser". Laugh - I nearly wet me sen - so who might that be I wonder?? Watch out there's a gonna be a lynching.......- Scab, 2009-03-30 "Get a tan on the Edale Skyline" - there is something just so wrong about that statement although true it certainly is. Today I'm sporting some fine tan lines and remarkably me pins feel fine. The 1st time I've got round without the wheels falling off and destroyed my previous best time to boot. Have finally discovered the secret of getting through distance races....food. Results aren't up yet but all Penistoners were well pleased with their performances from Simon Ripon blasting round in 3,1/2hrs (with his a*se hanging out his tights) to Pornstar Brett and Grizzly Adams Griffiths who comfortably got through the cut off. Not forgetting a terrified Jano Cockerton at the start who was wearing a large smile at the finish. Statto Pearce and Ian Charley made up the rest of the contingent but were left very much in the wake of the truly awesome scab! Helping out were Anne at kit check (no favours given!) Nick Cable (wearing a fat man's suit) marshalling on Mam Tor and not forgetting Bob Innes who ferry'd goods for Jane to each corner of the race. A truly great day out on the fells although I'd rather have been fly fishing!"- Scab, 2009-03-30 Hope u all enjoy the run. It's better than hot weather Mark? Made it much easier to get over the stile near the start. Pleased to see a mate from the past. Dave Smith, who ran for BH many moons ago (knee problem), turned up for a long awaited run on the moors. Fifteen mins into the race and he went flying! Luckily, no problems. Nine runners from PFR, one I've not heard of before; A Peter Sankey? I saw Pete Stanley, who seems to have been missed off the results sheet. Ah well. Congratulations to Scab, first PFR runner over the line (12th spot) in 55:16. | | A fantastic weekend was had by all that attended.
6 of us went, Bob and Jane, Trish and Duncan and Sarah and me. Snow was in abundance on the slopes of the Pentland Hills which made the winning time "slow", 53 minutes in comparison to 47 minutes last year. I managed a PB by 16 seconds recording a time of 83:04 Bob was next in 95 minutes; Trish in 96 minutes and Jane in 99 minutes. Duncan got very cold at the finish and Sarah enjoyed the delights of the coffee bars in Edinburgh. The race was filmed by Scottish TV to be shown at the end of March. All 6 of us went to Chop Chop, a new Chinese resteraunt, for a wonderful meal and then "did" the old town bars starting with some beer and finishing the night with a wee dram (or 3). | | I didn't mean your other half when I said idiot! There were 2 points in the race where the guy in front went left while the one in front of him went right. On the first occasion I made the right decision, 2nd time round it didn't seem to make any difference and I THINK Russell tagged in behind me. I NEVER look behind. If someone is going to pass me then they will. We were together at Higger and one second between us at the end. Good running, a vote of thanks for pushing me along. Finished 3rd VET over 50 and with a bit of detective work on the first 2 M50's in front, I know I was the first V55. Dead chuffed with that. Confidence is growing. All that green tea is doing me good. See you on Thursday Muddysox?- SoreenEater, 2009-01-27 I'll pass on the vote of thanks to the 'other half' since you were somewhere near him for most of the race! He wasn't sure who to follow either!- muddysox, 2009-01-27 Cracking race but I still prefer the original route and everyone running the same paths. Twice during the race I was unsure which "idiot" to follow! Difficult underfoot but a big vote of thanks to Totley AC who always put on very runner friendly races. The bacon sandwiches at Langsett were a welcome treat. Finishing in under 12 hours proved a challenge, but it's amazing that there's always enough left in the tank to sprint the last half mile! 21 runners completed the course, including Martyn Goodwin, Anne Beresford, Nicky Spinks and Mark Pearce from PFR.- KingSnail, 2008-12-30 Fab day out! 4 Penistoners there and we all made it round. Some looked a bit more spritely than others at the end. Despite painful knees and swollen feet, think I'd like to go back next year for more. Performance from the season from Baldeagle surely with his magnificent 2nd place. I assume that the club won the team prize but any others?- Scab, 2008-12-22 What an improvment with the route. Not done this race for donkey's years and now I know why. Having said that, it was nice to get on the road and see how the training has been going. Bad week at work, more germs flying around than in a doctor's surgery.
Mile 4 to 5 was a toughie with the wind. Every time I went by people on the uphill sections, they came by me on the downhill. Pleased with the time, looking forward to the Liversedge Half in February. Well done to everyone today.- SoreenEater, 2008-12-21

| | Which is why I said "in the mix" - I used up bags of energy clawing my way through the field ao the 1min 25 was a greater handicap than it suggests. But you right the slip of a lad would still have done for me. Anyway, what you doing on here - you should be with the masses in Meadowhall??- Scab, 2008-12-15 The maths doesn't support your claim that you would have stuffed him I'm afraid. 1 minute 25 seconds wasn't late enough. And as for "pulling a calf" are you sure it wasn't a sheep?- KingSnail, 2008-12-12 Managed to miss the start by 1min 25secs after rescuing a frozen 'er outdoors and her trusty push-bike from the top of Woodhead Pass. Got some strange looks as I worked my way through the field. Post race was left with a blown left calf no doubt caused by getting straight out of car and into race mode. That concludes the fell champs for this year. http://www.fell.runner.btinternet.co.uk/pfrchamps08.htm - muddysox, 2008-09-23 Scores are up for the 14 PFR'ers who braved the scorching slopes of Mount Lantern Pike. Lots of distractions in abundance at this great local country show. A pre-race warm up always guaranteed what with the 45 degree angle of slope that the show is based on !! Highlights were the jousting, stunt bikes and birds of prey. After the Jnr races (well done to my Rowan 18/30 in U8)it was down to the sweaty business of the day. A great performance by Baldeagle to finish high up in a quality field. Well done also to new member Alan King who appears to have an uncanny resemblance to another member Alan Knox. Aside from the similar speech impediment and poor looks he seems a descent enuff sort of chap! I wonder if Babs is still on the showground looking for her car? Scores on the doors: 10. Stannah Hinch was an incredible 2nd after flogging me and Rick to death on the chopper ride over to the start. Sue H bagged 1st prize in the over 21 category and Stu Woodhead in the over 65 category...I think! Only in Yorkshire could you get trays of chips served up by a bloke in a dinner suit with a dickie-bow! The 2 pints of Moonshine slipped down very nicely before the eyeballs out ride home - alas Stannah can't do anything at a steady pace. Why oh why have I not done this before? - great organisation by Wakey with results up in no time at all. The sight of the organiser throwing loaves of bread to the far corners of the boozer struck an almost biblical scene! Guttered can't make the last 1 which is a relay at the end of August. Do it if you can. n o doubt someone will post the results up here when they come out.- Scab, 2008-08-01 | |

I added about a K to the route by not being bothered to look at my map at a road junction about 1 K from the end, turned left instead of right and ran uphill (slightly) for 5 / 600 metres before realising, what a prat. That was a tough run. Congratulations to Bald Eagle and Scab. I thought I would give Frithy a break tonight so I opted for a swift half in the pub half way up the first hill, then casually strolled around the woods taking note of the various points of interest. Most people are writing reports on the message board.
It was an eventful race this morning. Nice to see so many people there. It would have been nice to get a hundred out. Thanks to everyone who marked the course and/or stood giving directions. Big Al's 40th on Friday. He said that he would retire if he beat me. So, I was well up for that. He blasted off from the start, I adjusted my shoelaces and strolled up the first hill passing the time of day with the locals. The course was marked every few metres and it was impossible to get lost. As we approached the top of the hill after crossing the stream/river, I decided to put my foot on the gas pedal and see if I could catch sight of Alex. Nope, nowhere to be seen. Passing people who had stormed by before I made good progress through the fields. I now caught a glimpse of my running mate. Bit by bit (with little effort) I began to pull him back. Mucky Lane and he is just a hundred yards in frony. Ian C appears to be struggling up the hill ( sorry Ian). Then it's my turn and I'M struggling. Through a few gates which Alex makes sure are tightly shut, I gain on him and by the top stile I am just a metre or so from him. Ready for the run in and put in a sprint. DAMN! Who move the finish to there? Ah well, he'll have to retire now. Well done Alex. It is going to be harder and harder for me to be in front from now on, if at all. I'll buy you a pint.- SoreenEater, 2008-06-15

| | Did this back in 1994 (2:22:58) 30 / 38 in thick clag. Fantastic race, obnoxcious locals in pub during prize giving. Would go back for race but keep my beer money for a more welcoming spot.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-06-06 Call em fell races in the Peak eh? - I think not. This is the mother of all medium category A races. Actually, 9.2m with 4200' of climbing no less. No wonder it took me 2hrs 4mins 21secs. A sheer monster hands on thigh grunt from Bethesda up to Carnedd Dafydd along the Carneddau saddle horseshoe and then up Carnedd Llewellyn. Then a screaming technical at times descent to the foot of Gryn Wigau when the hands on thigh grunting resumes. Well chuffed in finishing 13/55. Will defo do this again.- Scab, 2008-06-04 | |

What's it like up at the front?- SoreenEater, 2008-05-27 cracking race that was,the wind on top was a shocker, only other problem was driving home my left eye was niggling me,but ann said she could not see anything in it so i held out until i could not take anymore and decided to go to the hospital at 4.30 in the morning where they found a chunk of crowden horseshoe grit which they kindly removed thus giving instant relieve, got to see the eye specialist now because it is badly scratched, but all in all a fantastic face roll on next year.- baldeagle, 2008-05-27 Photos - click on the link www.flamingphotography.co.uk/portfolio32296.html - SoreenEater, 2008-05-26 That was a race and a half. Was it windy OR was it windy. Made little or no progress in some places, it was that bad. It's a good job it was blowing the direction it was or we might have had a few bodies over the edge near Laddow Rocks. Got to the trig point with one guy in "toe", downhill all the way from there. Thought that loads would pass me but only one did;Mark Buskwood from Totley. Glad to see the finish. A tough 80mins work. A few people tried to out sprint each other. Not a good idea. He went flying and did his legs in on the gravel. That Alex Simon kid is improving far too quickly. Must stop telling him all my training secrets. By 2009 I'll be chasing him! The same cannot be said for the only other white shirted attendee - Baldeagle. Good results from our top runners is very important to the overall profile of the club. So I'm afraid that losing your way so disastrously and slipping from 2nd to finish 11th just isn't good enough Mr Baldy. Does the club have a special fund enabling members to have a visit to a local optician? At least the daughters of the lost lad were very useful as timekeepers at the finish - a job for the Trunce perhaps MouthAlmighty? Well done to Big Al for setting it up. COUGH up Andy!- SoreenEater, 2008-05-12 Juniors will start 2.5 minutes after seniors and will do the loop by the river the opposite way round, that is anti clockwise not clockwise. Marshals will be out encouraging juniors to run on the right hand side of the lane after the first farm, ready to turn right instead of dropping down to kissing gate. Seniors will be asked to run on the left side of the lane after the first farm. This should remove the frustration of the faster juniors who get stuck in the queue for the gate.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-05-07

A stiff climb up the hill to the first stile. IS IT JUST ME being a Victor Meldrew type? I thought you were supposed to wait your turn and go over the stile, not climb over the wire fence. It does my head in. These idiots could stop others enjoying races because farmers don't want the fence wrecking. If you've got loads of energy, save it for later in the race. Sorry about the rant. | | Every last runner hit a windy wall just as they started the descent.
I was stood there at almost 45 degrees, it was brill.
Well done Baldeagle, and everyone else that participated, runers and officials alike.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-03 ps forgot to mention all for a fantastic cause.- baldeagle, 2008-03-02 thanks for that soreeneater, the wind nearly blew me over just after that piccy dropping of the top of hartcliffe, going up was okay it was on the top towards hartcliffe that was the worst not to mention the bogs and tuffs of grass, thanks to all p.f.r and all marshalls for a brill little race.- baldeagle, 2008-03-02 What a breezy day. Dropped off my wine and donation to sit atop Hartcliffe Hill. Windy or what. A group of people (no idea who they were, spoilt the effect having a number of barking dogs. Thought I recognised one or two of them, but ...... (people, not the dogs). Lack of working batteries and glasses led to me taking only one photo. The leader of course. Hope you raised a bit of money. Enough wine to replace the res! Click on the link for THE photograph. Hope it works. www.flickr.com/photos/24223912@N05/2304865326/ - SoreenEater, 2008-03-02

Managed to thaw out a bit after the hill. My mate was going to keep up with Julie B. Some hope! I was just starting my journey around the track as Julie was coming into the finish.
