We are organising an evening run/social on Thursday 23rd July. This is in addition to the regular Thursday Trogs. There will be different run options to cater for all abilities, plus non-running partners will be welcome, as we can organise a walk as well.
A coach has been provisionally booked, and transport costs will be £5 per person. This will depart from the football club at 6pm, and drop off runners as follows –
- Option 1 for faster runners – organised by Steve Dickinson. Drop off at Flouch and run over to Fairholmes, Ladybower. This will be very hilly, off road, approx. 12 miles to cover in 2 hours, so anyone taking part must be able to complete the run in this time.
- Option 2 organised by Sue Higham/Ian Wragg, will be a shorter, steadier run from Cutthroat Bridge on the A57 to Fairholmes.
Janet Proctor can also organise a walk around the Ladybower area.
The coach will then take us to the Yorkshire Bridge Inn nearby, for an evening meal, after which the coach will bring us back to Penistone.
We just need an idea of numbers at the moment, to confirm the coach booking, so if you are interested in coming along, please let Janet know.
More details will then be sent out nearer the time.
Once again there will be a series of Trogs through the summer months: first Thursday of each month. These are social runs for all abilities, organised by different club members.

- 4 June – Star Inn, Kirkhamgate
- 2 July – Oughtibridge
- 6 August – Venue tbc
- 3 September – High Hoyland

Duncan Mellor is organising a cycle trip from Penistone to York and back, setting off on Saturday 13th June and following the TPT/Dove Trails via Wombwell, Sprotbrough, Doncaster, Snaith and Selby to York. It’s about 60 miles but very easy going along river banks and old railway lines. A robustly tyred touring, hybrid, mountain or CX bike would be suitable. Duncan has provisionally booked 10 places in York Youth Hostel which is just over 1km from the City Centre on the river. It works out at about £40pp inc breakfast. Clearly beds get booked up quickly so if you can make it, let Duncan/Trish know asap. If demand is higher than 10, we can try for more. The return route on Sunday 14th can be either a reverse of Saturday or more direct along the EBOR Way via Tadcaster, Castleford and Barnsley. Please contact Duncan or Trish for more information or to express interest.
Also, there are a couple of places left on the cycle tour that Janet Proctor and Gill Wolff are organising from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th May. The route is the 170 mile Way of the Roses from Morecambe to Bridlington. Everyone should have received an email about it, but if anyone is still interested they need to contact Janet by the end of January.
Results are available here. Thanks to Nick and Teresa for organising, and to Andy and Sarah for hosting.
